| Hogue offers wood grips in a variety of exotic woods. Shown here is a rosewood finger position grip on a S&W Model 686 .357 Magnum (top) and tulipwood on a Model 629 .44 Magnum. The tulipwood grip has a contrasting grip cap of different wood. | ||||||||||||||

Hogue Grips is a second generation grip company begun by retired LEO Guy Hogue and now carried on by his sons. Hogue had a most unique idea. Instead of two grip panels fastened by a screw through the center he came up with the idea of a one-piece stock which would slide over the grip frame from the bottom and then be fastened to the bottom of the grip frame using a stirrup fitting over the grip pin and a screw entering from the bottom resulting in a most secure arrangement. Hogue has also pioneered the use of many exotic woods in off-the-shelf custom grips including goncalo alves, pau ferro, rosewood, kingwood, tulipwood and cocobolo.
In addition to all these exotic woods, Hogue also offers fingergrooved soft-rubber grips which can be a lifesaver when shooting large numbers of heavy kicking loads, and matched up with stainless steel handguns make an excellent weather-beating combination. With the rise in popularity of cowboy-action shooting Hogue has also added single action grip panels in black and ivory micarta, as well as exotic woods. Hogue also offers an excellent overmolded rubber stock for many rifles. At first this doesn’t sound like a great idea but it definitely works especially on Ruger’s Mini 14, Mini 30 and 10/22.
