Jawbone Knives As Samson Said... |

| The Clint Smith Tactical Knife, CST-7.5FF, is a special order knife from Jawbone, although Steve Long will be making a small run of 100 knives. Starting price is $550. | ||||||||||||||
| Up front I admit I am not the most knowledgeable guy on the planet about knives. Even with my limited knowledge I still appreciate good steel as much as most and more than many. In my travels, I have dealt with the Salinas Police Department in the San Joaquin Valley region of California, and had a chance to be exposed to Steve Long, recently retired from that agency. | ||||||||||||||
In his new retirement, Steve has worked darn hard to make a going concern out of his excellent knife making skills producing quality steel under the Jawbone logo. With none other than Samson himself speaking, “With a donkey’s jawbone, I have made donkeys of them. With a donkey’s jawbone I have killed a 1,000 men.” Hence the jawbone logo … works for me. I thought you might be interested in Steve’s take on knives and so here it is: “I began making knives about five years ago. I quickly realized that people were interested, and I began selling a few. I realized if I made a quality custom knife, people will buy them, so mine are handmade, one at a time. I work with high-carbon steel, not because it’s inexpensive, but because I’ve learned such steel has incredible edge holding ability. I also make a lot of Damascus blades, and heat treat all of my own blades. This gives me control over the toughness I put into the blade. “Jawbone knives have gone to Iraq, and Afghanistan and performed perfectly. SWAT members of the Salinas Police Department carry my tactical fixed blade knives. As a 25-year officer with this department, I would not make knives for brother officers if I could not make a knife that would perform. These men are part of my family, and I’m proud they trust me to make a tool that may save their lives. I don’t make cheap knives, but I do make knives that will perform, and I make them the old fashioned way, one at a time, using the best materials I can buy.” With that said I think if you are looking for a quality folder or fixed-blade knife made from 1095, 0-1 tool steel, random, twist or ladder types of Damascus steels and your choice of handle material, you might contact Jawbone. |
